Solo Exhibit

A survey of my work is on view at Artists & Makers Studio in Oro Valley from March 6 through April 19, 2025. Opening reception March 8, noon to 3 pm.

Revised Budget: Portraits and Ledgers

This exhibition of new, revised, and older works surveys the visual language the artist has been exploring since 1999. The artist uses images of money, accounting, numbers, and gambling as source material for aesthetic investigations of perception and expectations of value, including the parallels between the value systems of art and money. Individual norms, traditions, sentiments, and lived experiences with art and money inform viewers' engagement with the work.

Two compositional series of new paintings are presented. Zillionaire: Orders of Magnitude features three conceptual portraits of exponential wealth: Target, Collateral, and Profit & Loss. The second set of new paintings, with a background color similar to U.S. dollar bills, King, Divided, and Equity, features conceptual portraits of current socio-economic themes.

The LED-backlit drawing series Revised Budget reworks material from a 1999 site-specific installation. The layered rows and columns of manually drawn numbers, dramatized with backlit frames, resemble columns of accounting spreadsheets and ledgers.

The print series Cherries Win Lose features reprinted digital drawings from 2005 of the iconic cherries used in slot machines, which gradually disintegrate into numbers. Progressive slot machines are designed to engage players for long periods and promise higher odds of winning.
